List of Intelligence Agency in Bangladesh

First of all, intelligence agencies in Bengal usually mean two types of agencies, Investigation and Intelligence, although they are two completely different things.

The Detective Branch, the Police Bureau of Investigation, the Crime Investigation Department are all police investigation agencies, not intelligence agencies. There are three main types of intelligence agencies in Bangladesh. 1. Police Intelligence Agency 2.Civilian and 3. Military-paramilitary.

Bangladesh's intelligence agencies are:


1.National Security Intelligence (NSI) 

It is the leading civilian intelligence agency of Bangladesh, directly responsible to the office of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The organization takes the next step by collecting information from inside and outside the world and analyzing it. Recruits directly from civilians from the position of Assistant Director. Although the appointment of field agents or field officers is also in the same process, high ranking officers are also often recruited.


2.Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI)

The Director General of Forces Intelligent is the intelligence agency of the military. These agencies usually conduct military intelligence and, if necessary, conduct operations. This organization may have a separate combat team. Usually recruited from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The coordination of the work of Military Intelligent, Naval Intelligent, Field Intelligent Service is often conducted under this organization.


3.Criminal Investigation Department (CID)

It is a specialized wing of the Bangladesh Police. It carries out investigations into crimes, including terrorism, murders and organized crime.


4. Special Branch (SB)

It is the prime intelligence agency of Bangladesh, being an important agency in the Bangladeshi intelligence community.


5. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)

It is an elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of Bangladesh Police constituted amending the Armed Police Battalion Ordinance, 1979.


6.Detective Branch (DB)

The main function of the Detective Branch is to investigate important or unresolved cases. The agency also works to suppress or resolve any type of internal crime. While other agencies may have previously collected information, these agencies may be able to do a better job of conducting post-crime investigations to apprehend the perpetrator. It also plays a pioneering role in bringing the perpetrators under the law before the criminal organization collects information through various sources. Recruited from the police. 


7. Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI)

The Police Bureau of Investigation is a Bangladeshi version of the FBI. The agency investigates unresolved and difficult cases.


In addition to these agencies, the three military forces have separate intelligence agencies. The National Committee for Intelligence Coordination maintains coordination among all intelligence agencies in Bangladesh. Its head or coordinator is the National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister.
