Google Gemini's product lead withdraws from social media following an unsettling AI product launch that resulted in abuse

Important Points

  • Jack Krawczyk, the Gemini Product Lead, has deleted content from his social media accounts in response to a recent wave of hostility.

  • Elon Musk, the owner of social networking platform X, among other public figures and users have been criticising Krawczyk.

  • According to those acquainted with the situation, Krawczyk is still in charge of the Gemini product in his current role.

Google's artificial intelligence product head Jack Krawczyk has avoided social media platforms like X and LinkedIn since the company's botched AI image generator launch left him the victim of hate mail.

Krawczyk, who is frequently active on social media, has deleted identifying information and made certain accounts private. He is known to ask users for comments and to commend Google products and colleagues. Senior director of product management for Gemini, the company's primary line of AI models, is Krawczyk's formal title.

Despite his reduced public presence, people with knowledge of the situation who wished to remain anonymous to discuss the matter, claim Krawczyk is still working on Gemini products and holds the same title.

Google introduced an AI image creator through Gemini earlier this month. Much like text-based services like ChatGPT generate intelligent answers from queries, the programme let users submit prompts to create an image.

Earlier last month, Google unveiled an AI image generator using Gemini. Similar to text-based services such as ChatGPT, which produce intelligent responses based on user inquiries, the application allowed users to input prompts for the creation of images.

Krawczyk was the first Google executive to write on X, stating, "We are aware that Gemini is offering inaccuracies in some historical image generation depictions, and we are working to fix this immediately," just before the firm discontinued the product.

In an email to staff members on Tuesday, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai referred to Gemini's image creation problems as "problematic," stated that they "have offended our users" and "showed bias," and declared the situation to be "completely unacceptable."

By then, Krawczyk had absorbed much of the criticism after stories about some of his previous posts reappeared. Without providing any supporting data, his detractors accused him of having a "anti-White" agenda and used pictures of Krawczyk in their comments and postings. Elon Musk, the CEO of X and a frequent critic of Google's operations, highlighted Krawczyk specifically among these voices on his platform.

Since then, Krawczyk has deleted all of his personal photos and contact details from social networking sites.
