GP International Roaming:

In March 1999, Grameenphone introduced this premium service for the first time in Bangladesh and now provides International Roaming service to its own subscribers traveling abroad as well as to foreign operators’ subscribers traveling in Bangladesh. For the first time in Bangladesh in July 2006, Grameenphone launched Roaming Services (both GSM and EDGE/GPRS) with CAMEL Phase II for Prepaid In-bound subscribers.


Grameenphone International Roaming services Grameenphone has a unique ‘One to One’ relationship with all its International Roaming partner operators. As of November 2010, Grameenphone has more than 380 GSM partner operators in over 120 countries in 6 continents and 176 EDGE/GPRS partner operators in 60 countries.

Requirements to avail GP International Roaming Services

To activate the GP International Roaming service please visit your nearest Grameenphone centers or call 121 for further information.

• A Grameenphone Postpaid connection with ISD connectivity and

• An International Credit Card in subscriber’s own name and Foreign Currency Account [under Bangladesh Bank’s “GUIDELINES FOR FOREIGN EXCHANGE TRANSACTIONS”, 1996, Volume-1, Chapter 10, Section-1, Clause

• International Roaming Subscription Form (available in all IR Point of Sales)

• Photocopy of First seven pages of your Passport

• Both Side Photocopy of your International Credit Card

• Two Copy Passport size Photograph

• Auto Debit Form (optional – needed only if you want to authorize GP to auto-debit your account)

Post-Paid Standard Roaming:

Through this service, any GP postpaid subscriber is eligible to enjoy voice, SMS service even while s/he is traveling abroad. Our unique “One Country, One Rate” roaming tariff now allows all valued postpaid roaming subscribers to enjoy the same roaming tariff in specific countries – irrespective of different roaming partners’ different charges, tax, etc.


SMSRoaming:

The international roaming service without the VOICE facility is called ‘SMS Roaming’. With this service, the subscriber can send/receive SMS while traveling abroad; however, VOICE call facilities will be barred while roaming

EDGE/GPRS roaming:

EDGE/ GPRS is an advanced mobile technology and enables you to use high-speed mobile internet and data services. This service can be enjoyed by the postpaid subscribers only.


Pre-Paid Standard Roaming:

Through this service, any GP prepaid subscriber is eligible to enjoy voice SMS service even while s/he is traveling abroad.

Inflight Roaming:

Grameenphone is the 1st operator in Bangladesh to launch GSM roaming with AeroMobile. AeroMobile AS provides roaming facilities onboard aircraft, providing global coverage. It is a safe, cost-effective solution allowing passengers to use their mobile phones and PDA’s whilst in flight. As a result of the agreement, Grameenphone subscribers with international roaming facility can avail roaming facilities onboard the aircraft.


AeroMobile is currently available onboard a number of Emirates aircraft (B777s, A330s, and A340s) as part of the roll-out program which will see their existing fleet fitted with the service by the end of 2009. Among partner airlines, only V Australia has all its aircrafts equipped for AeroMobile. Furthermore, Aero Mobile will soon launch its services with Malaysian Airlines, Qantas, Turkish Airlines, and Saudi Arabian Airlines.


While the flight frequency for Emirates from Bangladesh is on a daily basis, however, AeroMobile cannot provide specific routes for the Emirates aircraft (fitted with the AeroMobile system) as the aircraft rotational schedules change on a weekly basis. Passengers onboard the aircraft will be made aware that the GSM network is available through announcements by the crew. Subscribers onboard the aircraft can use in-flight roaming after the aircraft leaves the Bangladesh air space.


No additional subscription is needed. Subscribers can enjoy the service by switching the mobile phone on in-flight to access GSM services. In-flight roaming facilities will cater to the communication needs of Grameenphone’s roaming subscribers.


Maritime Roaming:

Grameenphone international roaming service is now available in the sea and enables ship passengers and crew members to do business and stay close with their friends and family members. Grameenphone postpaid international roaming subscribers can enjoy onboard connectivity (voice and SMS service) through the launch of Maritime Roaming with MCP Norway. 


Maritime Communications Partner (MCP) is the global maritime telecommunications operator, fully owned by Telenor, reaching thousands of ship passengers and crew members in the European, North America, South America, and Asian markets. Subscriber’s phones need to be international roaming enabled to use of Maritime Roaming. 


In maritime roaming, subscribers can make calls and receive it from anywhere from the world just the subscriber has to have a GSM dual-band (900/1800 MHz) or GSM single band (1800 MHz) mobile. Roamer can avail of Voice SMS service. The quality of voice calls through MCP is similar to any other GSM network. No additional subscription is required to avail of this service. But the roaming subscriber will be charged by the home operator in the same way as when the subscriber is visiting a foreign country.
